What is GigSky?

When traveling internationally, eligible Canada issued Visa cardholders can get data coverage almost anywhere they go with Visa and GigSky. Use the GigSky app to access discounted global mobile data when and where they want, in over 200+ countries and destinations worldwide as well as on over 200+ of the world’s top cruise ships. Select a plan from the app, download an eSIM and connect on the spot—no physical SIM card required.

Canada issued Visa Classic, Visa Gold, Visa Platinum, Visa Infinite, Visa Infinite Business, Visa Infinite Privilege cards.

What GigSky discount will I receive with my eligible Visa Card?

Canada issued Visa Classic, Visa Gold and Visa Platinum cardholders: 10% discount on all GigSky plans

Canada issued Visa Infinite and Visa Infinite Business: One complimentary 1GB, 15-day duration plan and 20% discount on all GigSky plans.

Canada issued Visa Infinite Privilege: Two complimentary 1GB, 15-day duration plan and 30% discount on all GigSky plans.

Once I redeem and/or purchase my GigSky data plan, how long before I have to activate it?

Upon receiving a complimentary plan and/or after purchasing a discounted GigSky data plan at checkout in the GigSky app, cardholders have up to 365 days to activate it by connecting to the GigSky mobile network. At the end of this 365-day period, the GigSky plan is automatically activated.

What happens once my GigSky mobile data plan ends or if I have used all the available data?

In the event you have used all your allotted data on the GigSky data plan prior to the end of the plan duration, you can still purchase an additional GigSky plan as needed and receive a discount. Canada issued Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders, please note that only one GigSky complimentary data plan can be active at any given time.

Can I make phone calls or send SMS text messages using the GigSky benefit?

GigSky is a data-only service, so it does not support SMS or traditional voice calls. However, there are a number of Voice over IP (VoIP) and messaging services available that will enable you to send messages and make voice calls using GigSky. Please note that GigSky cannot be held responsible for the performance of third party products or services - refer to our Terms and Conditions for details.

Apple iPhone users: While iMessage will work over Wi-Fi and GigSky Data, there are settings that will send a message as an SMS/MMS if an internet connection cannot be found and this will trigger roaming charges. Therefore, please go to the Messaging settings on your iPhone and turn off Send as SMS.

Can I still be charged roaming fees with my mobile carrier when using the GigSky benefit?

Yes. If you make or receive phone calls or send SMS messages while travelling, you will be charged roaming fees. To avoid incurring daily roaming charges from your domestic carrier when traveling, turn off their daily roaming add-on. These add-ons have names like “Roam Like Home” (Rogers), “Roam Better” (Bell), or "Easy Roam" (Telus). If you then need to make or receive voice calls, or send SMS text messages, you will incur a pay-per use charge at your domestic carriers international roaming rate. Please check with your domestic carrier for clarification on their roaming charges before travelling.

Apple iPhone users should turn off Send as SMS in the Messaging settings to prevent iMessage sending a message as an SMS/MMS if an internet connection cannot be found.

Apple iPhone users should also make sure that Allow Cellular Data Switching is turned off and that Data Roaming is turned off for your domestic carrier's SIM. This will stop your device from accidentally using your domestic carrier's roaming data if the GigSky service is not available for any reason.

Will I incur roaming charges if I call GigSky’s help line?

If you use your mobile phone to call GigSky while travelling internationally, then you will incur roaming charges for the call.

Account Management

Can authorized users also get this benefit?

The offer may only be redeemed once by the primary cardholder or authorized user, whoever activates first.

What happens if I use a different card than my default payment card to receive my discounted GigSky data plan?

If you complete your order purchase with a payment method other than the eligible Visa credit card set as the default payment method, you will no longer be eligible for a discounted GigSky data plan and you will have to pay the full retail price for one of GigSky’s plans.

What happens if I have multiple cards saved on my profile?

You can have multiple cards saved on your account. Keep your eligible Visa credit card set as your default payment method.

My credit card was recently stolen or lost. I now have a new credit card number, what is going to happen to my benefit?

Don’t worry! In order to retain the benefit all you need to do is log in to your GigSky account and set your default payment method to your new Visa credit card.

My credit card recently expired. I now have a new credit card number, what is going to happen to my benefit?

I use Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay as my default payment method, will I still qualify for the complimentary GigSky data plan if I default to a Visa card in my digital wallet?

In order to determine eligibility for discounted GigSky data plans, we will need to set up your Visa card directly into the GigSky app as the default payment method outside of Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

Check the list of eligible Visa cards on the GigSky Visa landing page or in the GigSky app. If your card is listed but you are not able to see the complimentary GigSky Visa data plan, reach out to GigSky Care. If your card is not listed, contact your card Issuer.
