The Simplest Guide to Make Calls from iPad
Make and Receive Wi-Fi Calls from your Apple iPad Wi-Fi + Cellular
The easiest way to make phone calls with your iPad is to use FaceTime, the video conferencing software that comes with the iPad. When you place a call using FaceTime, it connects by using your Apple ID to calls to anyone who also has an Apple ID. Anyone who owns an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Mac computer has an Apple ID. These calls are free, even if you’re calling internationally and even if you’re using your iPhone, you won’t be using your minutes. If your carrier supports Wi-Fi Calling on iCloud-connected devices, you can also make and receive Wi-Fi calls on other devices like your iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular.
You can use Wi-Fi Calling on these devices, even if your iPhone isn’t on the same Wi-Fi Network or turned on. This means if you are connected to GigSky cellular data you can use FaceTime or most Wi-Fi calling apps via cellular data, which is a good option when free WiFi isn’t available. Be sure you have and iPad or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later.
Make sure that you’re signed in to iCloud and FaceTime with the same Apple ID that you use on your iPhone. Also make sure that your devices have the latest software. This is a critical step.
To place a Wi-Fi call from your iPad, follow these steps:
Call from your iPad
- If you haven’t added your device yet—which allows it to use Wi-Fi Calling—add it.
- Open FaceTime.
- Tap Audio.
- Enter a contact or phone number and tap the phone icon.
You can also place a call by tapping a phone number in Contacts, Mail, Messages, Safari, and other apps.

If you don’t want to use Wi-Fi Calling from one of your devices, you can remove it:
- On your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other devices.
- In the list of devices, turn off Wi-Fi Calling for the device that you want to remove.
